Why Do Teeth Get Discolored?

Medication
Certain medications can cause teeth to discolor. Antihistamines, high blood pressure medications, and antipsychotics are medications that lead to discoloration. Chemotherapy and radiation to the neck and head can also lead to the darkening of the teeth. If young children are given certain antibiotics like doxycycline and tetracycline, they can result in discoloration of teeth in adulthood.
Our Teeth Whitening Process
When you visit Western Piedmont Dental, the dentist will first click photographs of your teeth to show you before and after results. It also enables them to examine your teeth to figure out the precise location of the stains.
The dentist will also examine your teeth to ensure you do not have any other dental problems. If they find a problem, they will address that first before whitening your teeth. It is necessary to clean the teeth to get rid of any debris and food particles stuck on the surface. Once this is done, the dentist will begin the whitening process. It will take around 30 to 90 minutes based on how severe the stains are.
We protect the gums before applying the whitening agent to your teeth. Some of the agents may require laser lights. If the stains are bad, the dentist will create a customized mouthpiece for you so that you can continue the whitening process at home for a couple of days.
